Spay and Neuter Age
Pelaqita Persians strongly believes in the spay and neuter of all non-breeding cats (in other words -- cats that are solely companions, not for show or for breeding). Although Persian cats are very much loved and we feel the ideal companion, based on available research, documentation, and our own veterinarian's opinion, we believe the age that a Persian kitten can safely be spayed or neutered is as early as 11 weeks of age. Pelaqita Persians has all kittens being placed in a non-breeding or non-show home spayed or neutered at 11 weeks of age.
The early spay and neuter of kittens has taken place for many years and there has been quite a bit of testing/research done about the safety of the procedure at such an early age, and any known problems with growth or development of a kitten when being altered so early.

If you get a Persian from someone other than us, your veterinarian may have his or her own opinion of when to spay or neuter a kitten.
