Pelaqita Persian Cats
Information
Our Persian cats are first and foremost our much loved and pampered companions. Persian cats are so important to us that we created this site to provide information about: the history of Persian cats, to share pictures of our own Persian cats, to provide information on - the type of Persian cat breeders who are breeding Persian cats, and how to find a reputable Persian cat breeder. In addition, we offer information and educational resources including articles about - grooming Persian cats, supplies and toys for Persian cats, feline behavior, the PKD health issue, NuVet vitamin and mineral supplement, animal rights, recommendations for books about Persian cats.
On occasion, we breed our Persian cats and have Persian Kittens for Sale. Our Persian kittens are raised with our family with lots of love, attention, and proper socialization. Our Persian cats are normally not caged, they live free in our home, sleep in our bed (when they choose), and roam our home. The only time one of our Persians is enclosed (in a specially made large enclosure) is when we need to provide a safe environment for a cat to have a litter, when a cat may get ill and needs to be separated from others, and to quarantine a new arrival. We use CD&E enclosures in order to provide the roomiest and safest environment when needed. Click to see our Persian cats for sale.
We strive to breed cats that adhere to CFA and TICA Persian breed standards. However, not every kitten is "show" or "breed" quality and those kittens are destined for the loving lap of its new owner.
We take our responsibility as breeders of Persian cats, pet ownership and care seriously. Therefore, we are a voluntary signer of TICA's Breeders Code of Ethics. In addition, our home/cattery is proud to be a CFA Cattery of Excellence (expires 1/9/2009)and TICA's Outstanding Cattery (expires 1/2008) four years in a row (2005 - 2008). CFA Cattery of Excellence and TICA Outstanding Cattery certificates are issued to those homes/catteries that have been inspected on a yearly basis by a licensed veterinarian and points are issued based on several criteria including: how the cats and kittens are housed, cleanliness of home/cattery, health of cats and kittens, general behavior and socialization of cats and kittens, food storage, and safety of the home/cattery.
Pelaqita Persians is proud to be a PKD free cattery. Our breeding cats have been DNA tested by the University of California Davis and are negative for the PKD gene. Therefore, all of our kittens are PKD negative. We are also listed with the PKD Aware web site which requires written documentation before they list you as a PKD negative cattery.
Persian cat health is very important to us and are diligent in our efforts to keep our cats and kittens healthy and happy. Therefore, in addition to providing our Persian cats with lots of love, socialization, room to roam, proper health protocols and vaccinations, our breeding cats are tested for, and are negative for, FIV, FeLV, and PKD (DNA test). We have a ringworm free home. We work with solids, bi-colors, particolors, and tabbies. A written contract and two (2) year health-genetic guarantee is provided with all our Persian kittens.
Pelaqita Persians - Inception
Pelaqita (pronounced "pela-key-ta") is the registered cattery name with CFA and TICA. We are registered with the CFA and TICA in order to show and sometimes breed registered Persian cats.
Several years ago, Susan decided that she wanted to show Persian cats, her goal was to use the same tools, ethics, continuing education, and commitment that she developed with Chenoa German Shepherds to the showing and raising of Persian cats.
For almost 20 years, Susan has trained, shown, and occasionally bred German Shepherd Dogs. Throughout that time, she became better educated and continues to educate herself about the German Shepherd Dog, their conformation, behavior, training, nutrition, and showing her dogs in both the obedience and conformation rings in both AKC (American Kennel Club) and UKC (United Kennel Club) sanctioned events. Susan is a former 4-H leader and has taught dog obedience. She is a current member of the Rocky Mountain German Shepherd Dog Club, the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, and a former member of the Laramie Kennel Club and taught dog obedience through that club to its members and the outside public. Over the years, Susan has gained the respect of her peers and the people she has placed her puppies and older dogs with. Please visit Chenoa German Shepherds and some happy puppy buyers.
Susan's love of Persian cats came about many years ago when she saw a Persian cat at a cat show. Susan fell in love with their personality and beauty and decided that some day she would have a Persian cat of her own. Well, many years later this dream is finally coming true, photos of our Cats.

Susan has been married to her husband, John (a retired U.S. Navy Lt. Commander) for over 9 years and John has become an integral part of Pelaqita Persians and Chenoa German Shepherds. John serves as chief financial contributor, chief pooper scooper, head of carrying and toting of crates, grooming supplies and boxes, and many other items needed at dog and cat shows, and all around unpaid help. In other words, Susan could not continue her love of Persian cats and German Shepherd Dogs without John’s love and assistance.
We have been very fortunate to have had the guidance of several people who have provided us with an enormous amount of information, but more importantly, their time. A big thanks to Laura Thomas of Purrinlot Persians, Ellie Higgins of Katsational Persians, Sandy Merrill and Diane Poitevin of Merripaws and of Heatherbrook Himalayans and Persians! All of these ladies are the greatest and without whom I would have been lost.
